Spring in the Eastern Panhandle is something else. One week the trees are bare, and then suddenly — almost overnight — everything is soft and green and blooming. I hosted my spring mini sessions out at Orrs Farm in Martinsburg, West Virginia and was one of my favorite shoots of the year so far. If you haven’t been to Orrs Farm Market, they have rolling hills, open sky, and lots of family fun for every season. The apple blossoms were doing exactly what apple blossoms do — putting on a whole show — and the light was that gentle, golden, late-afternoon kind that makes everyone glow.

There’s something so cozy about photographing a family in their own space. The nursery alone told so much of the story — a blush pink ceiling, soft watercolor dot wallpaper, a crocheted blanket draped over the glider in pastel pink and green, and a little white crib lined with stuffed bunnies. The whole room felt like it had been waiting for her. Everyone is comfortable in their own home, and it’s so much easier to get those real personalities to come out.

This winter creative experiment has me dreaming of what’s next, and I can’t wait to share more of what I’ve been creating.
