Newborn Session Timeline: When to Book and What to Expect

I absolutely love capturing a newborn session right in the family’s own home. The reason these are becoming some of my absolute favorite sessions to shoot are simple — they capture something a studio simply can’t: real life, right where it’s happening. The nursery glider you picked out together. The bed where you’re spending those sleepy early mornings. The natural light pouring through your own windows. These are the details that make the gallery feel like your story, not a generic backdrop.

For families in Charles Town, West Virginia and the surrounding WV Eastern Panhandle area, in home sessions offer a few big advantages:

No stressful outings
Newborns and postpartum parents don’t need to be bundled up and hauled to a studio in those first few precious weeks

Comfort & Familiarity
Baby settles more easily in their own space, which usually means smoother feeding and soothing breaks during the session. No uncomfortable posing of your baby in positions that aren’t natural, just you — holding your sweet baby as you normally would.

Flexibility
We can work around feeding and nap windows easily, without a clock ticking on a rented studio spacee

What a Session Looks Like

  • Parents cuddled up together with baby in their arms

  • Tiny detail shots — newborn toes, tiny knit booties, a hand wrapped around a finger

  • Candid, in between moments of connection between mom and dad

  • A few sweet shots with the family dog making a guest apperance

  • Quiet, intimate portraits on the bed with favorite heirloom textiles

My goal is to always feel like a fly on the wall, capturing genuine emotion rather than posed perfection. My signature style leans soft, warm, moody and true to life — so the images feel timeless rather than trendy.
